‘Intellectual realism refers to the tendency of young children to indicate incorrectly all that is present in an object array when asked to indicate only what they can see of it from a particular perspective’

 

Adopting this attitude in a post graduation frustration with art criticism and writing Hilfiker immersed herself in children's drawings, schoolbooks and diaries.  

Adopting the subconscious freedom of  form, narrative and composition in young children's work, writing with her left hand she painted and drew purely from memory, relying on intuition, form and play.
